Basketball and Community - First Annual Custom Dozing Classic

On Feb 16th and 17th, Salmo Secondary School hosted the first annual “Custom Dozing Classic.” With eight teams attending from Revelstoke to Cranbrook, the community and school saw an action packed two days and 17 games. The tournament featured a banquet dinner hosted by the Salmo Valley Youth and Community Centre (SVYCC), a fast paced skills competition, door prizes, player of the game shirts, concession, silent auction and a 50/50 all managed by volunteers.

Basketball was what everyone came for but our community spirit is undoubtedly what they will remember. The stands were filled with parents and community members supporting the kids throughout the weekend.  Referees, parents, players and coaches all remarked on the tournament and how well our community came together throughout the weekend.

The organizing committee would like to thank the Salmo Secondary School staff, students and parents who volunteered countless hours to bring this together. We are grateful to SVYCC for donating their gym space as well as hosting dinner for the players. We would also like to recognize contributions from the following businesses:  Custom Dozing, Harfman Hauling, Woodberry Wildland Contracting, Glover Contracting, Ninco Construction, BOH Archery, Red Lion Organic Farm, Chances, Mallards, Whitewater Ski Resort, DragonFly Cafe, Salmo Valley Pharmacy, Sutco, Ainsworth Hot Springs, The Salmo Pump, Salmo Balance Therapeutic Massage, Co-Op Nelson BC, Salmo Village Grocery on Main and Salmo Foods.

A special thank you to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 217 - Salmo - for dressing our players for success. Over the past two years the Legion has bought new basketball uniforms for the Falcons.
