Orange Shirt Day: Offering hope
Orange shirt day at Salmo Secondary was a huge sucess! Each learning group, 7-8's and 9-12's, had two seperate lessons and in some instances a full day of learning based upon Reconciliation. In reflecting on their learning, students 7-12 posted their learning take aways on a board in the common area. The grade 7-8's focused on Identity and Reconciliation; whereas the grades 9-12's dove deeper into racism past and present - through an anti-racist educational lens. Student contributions were thoughtful and insightful. After lunch the whole student body as well as staff assembled on the field, distanced and wearing masks, creating a sign of 'hope'. Thank you to the educators that pulled together to make this day happen in a meaningful and positive way.
