Salmo Secondary Hosts Cross-Country Championships

On Oct 26th, Salmo Secondary hosted the Kootenay Zone Cross Country Championships. This was a first for Salmo Secondary who had never hosted the Zone Champs. The meet was used as a provincial qualifier for the B.C. Championships to be held in Victoria on Nov 5, 2022.

Approximately 100 runners from Fernie to Midway came to compete in Salmo. The races were held at the Salmo Ski Hill, which opened their indoor facilities for students to stay warm and ready. Salmo Secondary students volunteered to help marshal runners along the course and help with any finish line chaos. To cap the event off, Salmo Secondary student Naiomi Stavast placed third in the Junior Girls' Division, qualifying for one of six provincial berths. Congratulations Naiomi! Congratulations as well to Kade Waterstreet who put in a great effort in the Junior Boys' event. Go Falcons!

And, thanks to all the gritty competitors from across SD8 and to the Nelson Daily Sports for providing a full rundown of race results.
