Salmo Secondary Staff Honoring the Grads of 2020 with a Drumming

This weekend Salmo Secondary hosted a live 50 person Graduation Ceremony with a full live stream in accompaniment. This intimate ceremony had many heartfelt touches that highlighted each Graduate. Teachers, School Staff, Mentors, Coaches and Employers all came together to share memories of this class with a video compilation created by Teacher Mr. Trestan Shunter. In addition, School staff put forth two-three words to describe each Grad and translated these into a wordle for every Graduate as a momento. Salmo Secondary also had the privilege of having Don Coursen, the President of the West Kootenay Metis Association, attend the event in person to Sash two Metis youth and to provide all with some teachings. As a special surprise to the Grads, the Staff of Salmo Secondary were given permission from the District Principal of Aboriginal Education, Gail Higginbottom to learn and drum the 'Traveling Song'. The video attached is a recording of the Staff coming together to share in community their care for this incredible class! We hope you enjoy watching this video just as much as we loved taking part.

Enjoy,

Ms. Misty Terpstra
