Electricity Exploration in Science 9

The science 9 class started out this year with a physics unit. Ms. Methuen did an introduction by learning about how electricity is generated and some of the different types of power plants used to generate electricity in Canada. As a hands on project, students were put into small groups each being assigned a type of power plant (nuclear, hydroelectric, or fossil fuel) to build a model of.

Our Teepee is back up!

Yesterday, our school teepee was raised again with support from Jesse Halton. Students and staff who elected to take part worked collaboratively, gained knowledge, and opened space for questions. Coming into the school this morning was all the more welcoming, as students and staff were greeted to the site of our school's Teepee! A big thank you to Ms. Marrandino for organizing and launching this outdoor classroom. Protocols for use will be shared with staff and students before teachers can elect to use this space for instruction. 

Orange Shirt Day: Offering hope

Orange shirt day at Salmo Secondary was a huge sucess! Each learning group, 7-8's and 9-12's, had two seperate lessons and in some instances a full day of learning based upon Reconciliation. In reflecting on their learning, students 7-12 posted their learning take aways on a board in the common area. The grade 7-8's focused on Identity and Reconciliation; whereas the grades 9-12's dove deeper into racism past and present - through an anti-racist educational lens. Student contributions were thoughtful and insightful.

New Gym Floor at Salmo Secondary School

The newly restored and painted gym floor was a bug surprise for returning students at Salmo Secondary School. Students were wide eyed with the poppin' yellow keys and logo centered in the middle. Go FALCONS go!

Computer Lab upgrade

Students and staff are over the moon with our new computer lab! A big thank you to our District Technology department for dedicating thier time and energy to getting this installed in time for the 2020-2021 school year. 

School Wide Virtual Game Challenge - A Success!

On Friday afternoon, the staff and students were challenged with a series of puzzles and activities in a virtual game all trying to determine which subject was behind the kidnapping of Principal Jon Francis. Each class had its own flair in how they worked together. In the end, the grade 9 class took the prize with the most points. Till next time...

Scholarships Continue!

Salmo Secondary is incredibly proud of all of our grads. Two students in particular, Sarah Mobbs and Aidan Milburn have gone above and beyond in receiving Entrance Scholarships to their chosen schools of interest. Aidan has recieved the entrance Scholarship to The University of Victoria as well as a winner of the BC Dairy Association Scholarship: Making Salmo Proud.

 

Entrance Scholarship to College of the Rockies!

Salmo Secondary is incredibly proud of all of our grads. Two students in particular, Sarah Mobbs and Aidan Milburn have gone above and beyond in receiving Entrance Scholarships to their chosen schools of interest.

 

Sarah Mobbs who has been accepted into the College of the Rockies to engage in the four year Bachelor of Education has received College of the Rockies Academic Excellence Entrance Scholarship $1000 tuition award.

 

Congratulations to these talented graduates of Salmo Secondary School! The future is yours.

Salmo Secondary Staff Honoring the Grads of 2020 with a Drumming

This weekend Salmo Secondary hosted a live 50 person Graduation Ceremony with a full live stream in accompaniment. This intimate ceremony had many heartfelt touches that highlighted each Graduate. Teachers, School Staff, Mentors, Coaches and Employers all came together to share memories of this class with a video compilation created by Teacher Mr. Trestan Shunter.
